Wrist Injuries

Wrist pain is another common symptom seen in people that spend many hours at the computer typing. Pain could be due to overuse or trauma leading to tendonitis or sprain. If there is numbness in the thumb and index finger it could be indicative of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). CTS usually occurs in one hand, unless the patient is pregnant or diabetic in which case it may present bilaterally. Occasionally nodules called ganglion cysts may appear on the back of the wrists. These are tender to touch and usually respond well to conservative care. X-rays are helpful in ruling out fractures and different types of arthritides of the wrist. If ligament or tendon rupture is suspected then MRI might be recommended.
